A Halloween Poem

CAW CAW
~^~
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
The Black Crow called in its eerie voice
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
What does it want?
Sitting up so high in the trees
At the very top, flapping its wings
Maintaining its balance
~^~
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
The Black of Night so Cold, so alone
Silence in the snap of the wind
Broken by the call of the Black Crow
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
Why won't it stop calling?
MAKE IT STOP!
~^~
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
Feet move swifter to approach the walkway
A sudden CRASH of a limb to the ground
Shattering into a million pieces
Of old dried out weathered wood
Steps hurrying now, moving faster and faster.
~^~
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
What the hell does it want?
What is it cawing at?
Steps transforming into leaps of running legs
Got to get to safety,
Leaves rustle like tin scraping the pavement
Circling up in a tornadic whirl
Cutting the face with little slits
A droplet of blood trickles down.
~^~
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
There it is: home!
Running past the gate
Creaking open at the hurried forced touch
The Black Crow, Cawing even louder
"CAW CAW CAW CAW"
Flapping its Wings with Fury
Holding on to the fiercely swaying tree top limb.
~^~
Next Day:
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
The Black Crow caws as its claws
Grab at the spoiled meat
Laying on the discarded newspaper
With the headlines saying:
Halloween Tragedy
Man Dies On Front Porch Step From Fallen Tree Limb!
"Caw Caw Caw Caw"
As it flies off with its spoils,
The Black Crow caws the words:
"Caw, Some refuse to listen to the magic, Caw
Caw, in the call of my voice, Caw".
~^~
